What we do on IM-IN-CRISIS:
- Listen to what is going on with you today.
- Support you in a non-judgmental and compassionate way.
- Help you explore your feelings, thoughts, and options.
- We may ask you questions about suicide and let you know that it’s okay to talk about suicide during the chat.
- Explore positive next steps and options.
What we do not do on IM-IN-CRISIS:
- Give advice.
- Solve your problems.
- Tell you what to do.
- Judge or criticize.
- Chitchat.

Crisis Chat Etiquette
- Use a computer with a strong Internet connection to minimize disruptions.
- Use respectful language.
- Stay focused on the chat and respond promptly – limit multi-tasking.
- If you need to step away from the chat for a moment, let us know or end the chat and then come back when you have time.
Sometimes you will be told all Chat Specialists are currently busy. We know you came to our site because you are in crisis and we want you to get the help that you need. Here are a few options for you to consider:

- You can remain on-line and we will chat with you as soon as we complete our other chats.
